Megan & Kurt’s Winter Woodland Wedding

Megan and Kurt’s ceremony took place at The Resort at the Mountain in Welches, Oregon.

Our talented prop designers created a beautiful and natural ceremony arch lit with hundreds of romantic tiny white lights. Warm light was added at the base of the arch and ceremony aisle with candles, lanterns and petals to give the feeling of a gentle evening winter night.

Table centerpieces had even more candles placed on Alder rounds with all white floral arrangements of white Hydrangea, ivory and white Roses and Seeded Eucalyptus. The head table centerpieces were designed on long split Alder logs to add a new shape and variety to their woodland theme.

All of the items, including a 24” Fir slab for the wedding cake were rented from our inventory of wedding rental items we have to offer. We love to help or clients create their wedding vision by creating new and beautiful décor that will set the tone for their unique wedding vision.

“The evening was beautiful and just what they had envisioned!”

Daisies and Baby’s Breath Wedding

So Simple and sweet!

White Daisy Mums and Baby’s Breath bridal bouquets wrapped with lace and twine give such a vintage feel.  The ceremony arrangements include white Hydrangea and Larkspur with a coordinating twine band.  Baby’s Breath clusters line the aisle at the beautiful Savior Lutheran Church.  Our bride provided her own mason jars decorated with burlap and twine. A Floral Affair added the same white Daisies and Baby’s Breath for the centerpieces.

The Aerie at Eagle Landing Reception In ‘The Cave’

This weekend we finally had the pleasure of providing reception flowers in The Cave, at one of our favorite wedding venues, The Aerie at Eagle Landing in Happy Valley, Oregon.

This area is a charming and rustic hideaway nested in a grove of trees just behind The Aerie at Eagle Landing’s Putt-Putt golf course.  The Cave is a perfect hideout for those wanting a private and distinctly northwest outdoor setting.  With multiple fire pits and plenty of seating, this space can host an intimate group or a crowd to party the night away.  You can take full advantage of the surroundings by hosting a friendly golf tournament on the Par 3 or Mini golf course.

Our client wanted to create a romantic garden feeling with the rustic flair that The Cave has to offer.  We used her mercury glass vases and created a soft romantic look using white hydrangea, creamy white dahlias, Queen Ann’s lace, blush pink roses, peach stock and green hanging amaranthus.  For the buffet we embellished her vase with a bark wrap which had just the perfect place to carve their initials.  One of the great staff at The Aerie, Nathen and his trusty pocket knife, helped me to add the perfect finishing detail.  Thanks Nathen!

Today we received an email from the bride with this comment: “The flowers were amazing!!  You did such a great job.  Thank you again. They were everything I hoped for and more.  The one with the bark was amazing!”

Wedding Traditions

Have you ever noticed how many traditions are associated with weddings? Traditions include not seeing the bride in her wedding dress before the ceremony; the father daughter dance at the reception; something borrowed, something blue; and so many more.  Have you ever wondered where some traditions come from?  In many countries a boutonniere on the groom is a symbol of fertility.  It is a German tradition for flower girls to sprinkle petals down the aisle for good luck.  Many couples are choosing to incorporate more traditions from their heritage to honor ancestors.

A popular trend for brides with themes from the British Isles include bouquets of wildflowers and wearing flower garlands in the hair for Irish maidens; Welsh brides carry myrtle; and Scottish lasses include blue thistle and heather.

Tropical themes can get played up with tropical flowers like protea, orchids, or antherium.  Hawaiian men wear a Maile Lei while Thai men where a Puang Maloi Garland to promote fertility and act as protection against malevolent spirits.  Incorporating leis are a perfect way to carry the tropical theme.

Memorial Services & Baby Showers

Last week we had the pleasure of creating the final tribute for two families’ loved ones and the welcoming of a new life.

Lois loved Pansy’s and quilting. We designed a floral and Pansy plant combination that complimented a quilt that Lois had made.  The other was designed around a very nice gentle mans wife and her love of gardening. We wanted to reflect the heart felt memory that her husband had for her.

The baby shower was for a customer whose wedding we did in 2012.  Who knows, before you know it we will be doing her prom flowers.  P.S. It’s A Girl!!!

If It’s Important and Special To You, It’s Important and Special To US!

Amanda’s Abernethy Wedding.

If you want the perfect setting for a garden wedding, stay local and check out the Abernethy Center in Oregon City.  They have two outdoor ceremony sites as well as a newly built chapel and elegant ballroom, check them out at http://www.abernethycenter.com/ or  http://www.facebook.com/AbernethyCenter.

Our lovely bride Amanda was married in the Abernethy’s Veiled Garden, which suited her garden style flowers perfectly.  Her colors were a vibrant purple, hydrangea blue, and sunny yellow.  Here are a few pictures for you to enjoy.

New Year, New Galleries!

Happy New Year from all of us here at A Floral Affair!  It’s been a while since we last blogged…my fault of course since I write all the blogs (wink, wink), although in my defense I did have a baby during the height of our busy season.  Sadly life just hasn’t left much time for blogging recently, but we’re back in full swing now and have so much to share with you.  First off, we’ve updated our web galleries…finally.  The wedding galleries are full of great new work to delight and inspire you, please take a peak and tell us what you think, we’d love the feedback.  We also gave all the photos on the web a unique reference number you can easily communicate to one of our designers over the phone or by email.  This year we hope to increase our daily business, so keep an eye on our Facebook page for weekly specials and “fan only” discounts.  Lastly, Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and we will be having a love story contest, start thinking of the most romantic thing your significant other has ever done, and we’ll have the contest details for you soon.

Cheers!

Five Weddings…One Weekend

Last weekend was CRAZY!!  We did five weddings and a rehearsal dinner between Thursday and Saturday.  The studio was in a state of organized chaos, and the designers were all working at top speed.  I’m usually chained to a desk in the office, but last week I made sure to go check on the activity in the studio, and take some candid shots of the work in progress.  We also have a number of pictures of the finished products to share with you.

Three of the weddings were at the Abernethy Center in Oregon City, where we are a preferred vendor.  We love working there not only because it is a beautiful venue staffed with amazing people, but since we’ve moved it’s only about five minutes from our studio.  In addition to their gorgeous outdoor wedding facilities the Abernethy Center will be adding a chapel for indoor ceremonies in the near future.  We’ll be sure to keep you posted on the chapel completion date and other happenings at our favorite venues.
